Ellen Britt for CNT #NFT
Four months after the company announced an exploratory phase, the little blue bird over at Twitter announced the availability for some people to begin using an NFT as their profile pic.
Twitter joins Coca-Cola, Crocs, Mercedes-Benz, Walmart, Facebook and Instagram, plus the NFL with its embrace of all things non-fungible!
Exclusive To Twitter Blue Users
Not everyone who uses Twitter will have access to this profile feature. First of all, you have to be a subscriber to Twitter Blue, the company’s $2.99 a month service, to get in the NFT door. This allows you to connect your crypto wallet and display an NFT that you own as your profile picture.
You’ll be easily able to spot these NFT profile photos as they will be in the shape of a hexagon, rather than the circle everyone else uses.
Twitter’s Mass Influence
And because of Twitter’s huge user base, millions of people are about to begin seeing these and even if they know nothing about NFTs, they will start to become curious. This in itself will help to drive adoption.
There is still some uncertainty as to how well this will be accepted. Embraced or ridiculed? Only time will tell. But with Twitter’s decision comes yet another piece of evidence that NFTs are not just another passing fad.
