Real Estate Agents Reveal How They Sell Houses With Sordid Pasts

BY HADLEY MEARES | HollywoodReporter.Com Troy Warren for CNT For L.A. agents, marketing an estate with a notorious history presents challenges: "It really gets everybody’s imagination going," but in some cases (i.e., a murder), it’s best to focus on the architecture. On Aug. 14, 1951, William Randolph Hearst, 88, lay dying in a gilded Mediterranean Revival mansion in Beverly Hills. Five years earlier — in declining health and with his reputation wounded by Citizen Kane — he agreed to move from his beloved Hearst Castle in San Simeon to Los Angeles to be closer to doctors. Hearst’s longtime mistress, movie star Marion Davies,…

Forget Fake Meat: Wendy’s Is Testing a Black Bean Burger

Forget Fake Meat: Wendy’s Is Testing a Black Bean Burger

By Mike Pomranz | FoodAndWine.Com Troy Warren for CNT Wendy's says they're taking aim at the competition's "bland" meat-free burgers. A shift towards plant-based meat has been one of the biggest trends in the fast food business (alongside, ironically enough, the explosion in chicken sandwiches). But even though many menus now have more vegetarian options, most of those new items are meant to replicate real meat. The two biggest names in the plant-based movement have been Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods -- both of which shun traditional veggie burgers for more high-tech, research-based, meat-mimicking products. But what's wrong with more old-school vegetarian options -- especially if they taste good? Wendy's, for one, thinks they're…

Study shows potential dangers of artificial sweeteners

Study shows potential dangers of artificial sweeteners

By Nancy Clanton, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Troy Warren for CNT Numerous studies have been done on artificial sweeteners, with some showing they can alter the number and type of bacteria in the gut. A new study, however, led by academics from Anglia Ruskin University, has demonstrated that sweeteners can also make the bacteria pathogenic, or causing disease. The researchers suggest common artificial sweeteners can cause previously healthy gut bacteria to become diseased and invade the gut wall, potentially leading to serious health issues. The study, according to the research team, is the first to show the pathogenic effects of saccharin, sucralose…

International travel gradually reopens – with lots of caveats

By Kelly Yamanouchi, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Troy Warren for CNT International travel destinations are opening up again as the summer travel season shifts into higher gear — but not without hurdles or headaches. Delta Air Lines is ramping up its schedule of routes to Europe, including starting flights from Atlanta to Athens, Venice, Barcelona and Madrid starting in July and August. Most foreign carriers have restarted flights from Atlanta, including Qatar Airways and Lufthansa relaunching service earlier this month. Mexico and much of the Caribbean have been welcoming tourists for months. Tourism is still heavily restricted in much of Asia, though. Same for Canada, the United Kingdom and…
