Will those familiar big brown UPS trucks soon be rumbling down the aveneues of the metaverse? All the street signs point in that direction!
United Parcel Service (UPS) , the Atlanta-based shipping giant, has filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office such terms as NFTs, virtual packages, parcels, shipping labels and virtual retail shipping.
Clear Indications
These filings are clear indications that UPS intends to enter the metaverse, but just how that will take shape, no one knows just yet.
Some of the language used in the trademark filing applications points to USP looking at various ways to connect its presence in the metaverse with rewards that customers can get in real life. It also appears they may be looking at virtual events, such as online trade shows for small businesses.
UPS Has The Edge
With these filings, it appears that UPS has the edge on competitors FED-X and DHL, who don’t seem to have filed anything, at least not at the time of the publication of this article. This makes UPS the first major delivery company in the U.S. to trademark its products and services in the metaverse.
