Ellen Britt for CNT #NFT
As explained in our NFT Cheatsheet, unlockable content is a set of secret files and content that is only accessible by the first buyer of the NFT and unlocked only after the NFT has been purchased.
Why would creators of NFTs want to put something like this in place?
Well, for one thing, this is a fantastic way for creators to reward the very first buyers of that particular NFT and it also adds more value to the NFT itself.
Examples of Unlockable Content
For artists who create and sell NFTs, these might be high-resolution files. Or perhaps the NFT offers membership in a digital community, forum, or other digital experience only available to the NFT owner.
If you, as the creator, hold physical events such as concerts, conferences, retreats, and the like, you can include tickets to these events available to the buyer. This also creates a great secondary market for the NFT.
You can embed discount codes for your store, known as Easter Eggs.
Bonus material is also a great way to add value with unlockable content, such as behind-the-scenes videos and photographs.
Unlockable Content Is off the Chain!
The unlockable content is usually located “off chain” with the NFT itself simply pointing to or giving instructions on how to access it, once the NFT is in the buyer’s possession.
The appeal of “secret files” and unlockable content available only to buyers of the NFT appeal, adds value to the NFT and also adds value to any secondary market for the NFT.
What’s not to love?
Basically, you as an NFT creator, are only limited by your imagination!
