For bountiful beans, plant in warm soil

By Walter Reeves, For the AJC Troy Warren for CNT Q: I have tried over and over this spring to grow pole beans but only a few seeds sprout. Any ideas why? Debbie Johnson, email A: I think the soil has been too cool to plant green beans until now. When the soil is 65 degrees or lower, you’ll get sporadic germination. When the soil is 75 degrees or above, you’ll get close to 100% germination. Buy more seeds and try again. You can check your local soil temperature at Georgiaweather.net. Study: COVID-19 popped up in U.S. weeks before first reported cases

By The Associated Press Troy Warren for CNT NEW YORK — A new analysis of blood samples from 24,000 Americans taken early last year is the latest and largest study to suggest that the new coronavirus popped up in the U.S. in December 2019 — weeks before cases were first recognized by health officials. The analysis is not definitive, and some experts remain skeptical, but federal health officials are increasingly accepting a timeline in which small numbers of COVID-19 infections may have occurred in the U.S. before the world ever became aware of a dangerous new virus erupting in China. “The…
