CDC Lowers Cruise Travel Warning Level

DONALD WOOD | TravelPulse.Com Troy Warren for CNT   The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lowered its travel warning for unvaccinated cruise ship passengers from Level 4 to Level 3. The CDC’s move from “Level 4: Very high level of COVID-19” to “Level 3: High level of COVID-19” recommends travelers who have received a full coronavirus vaccination should avoid river and ocean cruises. Health officials also said due to the ease of transmission in small areas, travelers with an increased risk of severe illness should not travel on cruise ships, including river cruises. The CDC update states that unvaccinated passengers who decide…

Director Dee Rees on the Importance of Debut ‘Pariah’ Becoming a Criterion Release: “We Have to Widen the Canon”

BY REBECCA KEEGAN | HollywoodReporter.Com Troy Warren for CNT As Rees becomes the first African American woman to join the collection, the press-shy 'Mudbound' helmer talks about staying off social media, her hope that the Black filmmaking resurgence is more than a trend, and the joy of breaking new ground: "Maybe I shouldn’t have been first, but it doesn't diminish the pride I feel." In 1995, while trying to buy a movie ticket, Dee Rees got an early lesson in the bias of film industry economics. Then a freshman at Florida A&M University, Rees went to the local multiplex in Tallahassee to see Dead Presidents,…

Study: COVID-19 popped up in U.S. weeks before first reported cases

By The Associated Press Troy Warren for CNT NEW YORK — A new analysis of blood samples from 24,000 Americans taken early last year is the latest and largest study to suggest that the new coronavirus popped up in the U.S. in December 2019 — weeks before cases were first recognized by health officials. The analysis is not definitive, and some experts remain skeptical, but federal health officials are increasingly accepting a timeline in which small numbers of COVID-19 infections may have occurred in the U.S. before the world ever became aware of a dangerous new virus erupting in China. “The…

BREAKING: U.S. Supreme Court upholds Obamacare in latest challenge

By Tim Darnell, Atlanta Journal-Constitution Troy Warren for CNT The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act in the latest attempt to strike down the law, popularly known as Obamacare. By a vote of 7-2, the court on Thursday ruled against Texas and other states seeking to strike down Obamacare as unconstitutional. In California v. Texas, the court voted to reverse an appeals court ruling that had found a provision of the law to be constitutional. Texas and 17 other states brought this lawsuit, along with two private plaintiffs, who argued Obamacare’s minimum essential coverage requirement is unconstitutional. Justice Stephen Breyer,…

Southwest still struggling with flight delays, cancellations

By The Associated Press Troy Warren for CNT DALLAS — Passengers on Southwest Airlines had to deal with canceled flights and delays for a third day on Wednesday, as the airline tried to recover from technology problems that started earlier this week. By late afternoon Central time, Southwest had canceled nearly 400 flights and more than 1,000 were delayed, according to tracking service FlightAware. Why intermittent fasting might not be your best diet choice

Why intermittent fasting might not be your best diet choice

By Nancy Clanton, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Troy Warren for CNT Intermittent fasting, where you either skip a day of meals or restrict your consumption to certain hours, has grown in popularity in recent years. However, there has been little evidence to date about the effectiveness of fasting compared with more traditional diets, which aim to reduce your calorie intake over the course of a full week. According to a study by the University of Bath, in the United Kingdom, however, “there is ‘nothing special’ about fasting.” “Of course, any diet which encourages us to eat less has the potential to elicit weight…
