Mexican Caribbean Not Requiring Vaccination Proof, Negative COVID Test

CLAUDETTE COVEY | TravelPulse.Com Troy Warren for CNT   The Quintana Roo Tourism Board has debunked erroneous reports from several media outlets that the Mexican state’s Governor Carlos Joaquin enacted a policy that mandates proof of vaccination and a negative COVID for entry into hotels, restaurants and bars. “This is not a mandate,” the tourism board told TravelPulse. “Unfortunately, this information was misinterpreted by local news outlets and picked up by international media.” “The government stated that in order for restaurants and bars to operate at a higher capacity, they would have to create a ‘safe health space,’ which would mean vaccinating and testing…

Unruly passengers causing havoc on some flights

By Kelly Yamanouchi, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Troy Warren for CNT A survey of nearly 5,000 flight attendants found 85% had dealt with unruly passengers in the first half of this year. According to the Association of Flight Attendants union survey, 17% reported a physical incident and 58% had at least five confrontations with passengers. Mask compliance is the biggest contributor, but alcohol, flight delays and cancellations are also driving the incidents, according to the union. Airlines, including Atlanta-based Delta, have put hundreds of passengers on their no-fly lists for refusal to comply with mask requirements. In one incident in December, a passenger tried to open the…

How Cruise Lines Are Handling the Return of Passengers

CLAUDETTE COVEY | TravelPulse.Com Troy Warren for CNT   The general consensus among travel advisors who’ve sailed in recent weeks is that cruise lines are meeting – and in some cases exceeding – passenger expectations. “Everyone I spoke with was just excited to be back on a cruise again. ‘I missed this’ was the common response,” said Chris Caulfield, a CruiseOne franchise owner based in Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., who sailed on Royal Caribbean’sFreedom of the Seas from Miami.   “Royal Caribbean was clear about guidelines, so passengers knew before boarding what was expected.” He noted other than adhering to a handful of…

Phoenix: Post-vaccination travel rebound: Here’s how busy the Phoenix, Mesa airports were in June

Melissa Yeager | Arizona Republic Troy Warren for PhoenixNewsAndTalk.Com   If airline passenger numbers are any indication, the pent-up demand for post-vaccination leisure travel has been unleashed. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport inched closer in June to a near return of its pre-pandemic traffic, while Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport saw its first increase in 2021 compared to 2019.  Sky Harbor reported 3.6 million passengers in June 2021. That's down just 5% from June 2019, when it welcomed 3.8 million. Overall, passenger traffic at Sky Harbor is still down significantly in 2021 compared to  2019. So far this year, 16.8 million passengers have used the airport,…

Delta loosens ticket restrictions after customers can’t reach agents

By Kelly Yamanouchi, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Troy Warren for CNT Delta Air Lines is loosening restrictions on basic economy tickets to reduce the deluge of frustrated travelers facing hours-long waits on customer service phone lines. Basic economy tickets normally do not allow any changes to the itinerary, even for a change fee. The airline temporarily allowed more flexibility during the pandemic, but that policy ended earlier this year. Starting Wednesday, however, Delta will temporarily allow changes to basic economy tickets for travel through Dec. 31, 2021, “to help address call wait times as we increase staffing,” CEO Ed Bastian wrote in an update to customers.…

Now Airlines Are Concerned About Fuel Shortage

RICH THOMASELLI | HollywoodReporter.Com Troy Warren for CNT   After a pandemic, loss of income, and pilot and staffing shortages, you’d think the airlines have seen it all in the last year. Now there’s a new worry. U.S. carriers say there is a fuel shortage afoot, mostly at small to mid-size airports in the west, forcing them to add refueling stops or fly fuel into locations where the supply is tight. Delta Air Lines said Reno, Nevada, is the most affected location as pipelines have been devoting more space to gasoline and diesel and less to jet fuel during the pandemic. Nevada…
